1ST Olive oil and Olive Festival “Athinais” Event Hall 17, 18, 19 March 2006
The Olive oil and Olive Festival is the first large event undertaken by the European Regional Development Network. Olives and Olive oil are perhaps the most significant products of Hellenic Earth with a large participation in the revenue of Greek cultivators. The great value of this product, but also the lack of an event – meeting place, worthy of our national product, led us in March 2006 to organize the first large exhibition on the olive and olive oil in our country named “Olive & Olive oil Festival”.
The 1st Olive oil & Olive Festival was organized at the “Athinais” Event Hall by the European Regional Development Network, the European Organization for Strategic Planning, the Pan-Hellenic Association of Table Olives Processors Packagers & Exporters (PEMETE) and the Municipality of Athens – 3rd Municipal District during 17 – 19 March 2006.
The first and largest industry event ever the Olive & Olive oil Exhibition, the 1st Olive oil Conference and the many other events that were presented on a Prefecture level and the fruits of the Greek olive cultivators with the excellent quality Greek olive oils was crowned with great success. Many companies were present from all olive oil producing prefectures of our country with their excellent quality and nutritional value products. Furthermore, the uses of these products was presented through a multitude of delicacies and traditional products based on the olive and olive oil. Aside from the production companies, participating in the exhibition were many olive oil processing and packaging companies, which presented to the thousands of olive oil processors and olive oil producers that visited the 1st Olive & Olive oil Festival state of the art equipment and all the new technologies used in the industry.
There were more than 10,000 visitors attending the Festival. Aside from the many consumers, a large number of olive oil processing companies was present from all olive oil producing prefectures of our country, Directors or Supplies Managers of super markets and food stores, patisseries, restaurants and other eating establishments.
There were also a large number of trade attendants and Ambassadors who visited the Festival from countries such as: China, Canada, USA, France, Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Russia, Malta, Cyprus, Finland and Slovenia, and trade agreements were made with participating exhibitors. Finally it was an excellent opportunity for representatives of Local Governments, Chambers and private companies involved in the olive and olive oil industry to meet and exchange views.
Awarded with the Gold Medal was the Olive and Olive oil Festival of the Municipality of Asklipios from the Prefecture of Argolida.
2nd Olive oil and Olive Festival Peace and Friendship Stadium 9, 10, 11 May 2008
The first entirely successful event at “Athinais” event hall in 2006 mandated the institution of the Olive oil and Olive Festival on an annual basis. Our ever increasing interest led us to move it to a larger venue and specifically at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. The 2nd Festival took place on 9, 10 and 11 May 2008. It was co-organized together will all bodies of the sector and more specifically: Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food, Ministry of Environment Land Planning and Public Works, Prefecture of Piraeus, European Organization for Strategic Planning, Agronomics University of Athens, National Olive and Olive oil Professional Organization, Association of Greek Olive oil packaging Industries, Pan-Hellenic Association of Table olives Processors Packagers & Exporters, Greek Association of Olive oil Packaging Manufacturers, Municipality of Athens 3rd M.D. and the Alexandrian TEI of Thessalonica.
There were over 180 participants in the Festival (among these Prefecture Local Governments, Chambers, Local Municipal and Community Associations, olive and olive oil packaging and trade companies, machinery companies, publishing firms and daily print and magazines from the agricultural sector). Over 15,000 visitors, professionals and consumers, ambassadors, trade attendants and trade visitors had the opportunity to have a first hand experience with the richness and quality of Greek olive oil and olive products. Presented to the public at the largest and most important Exhibition on the olive and olive oil ever to take place in Greece were olives and olive oils from all around the country, olive products (paste, sweets, soaps etc.), olive oil processing machinery, packaging materials and quality services (ISO, HACCP etc.). Presented throughout the duration of the three days of the exhibition, in a specially laid out area were recipes based on olive oil and its products from all olive oil producing prefectures of the country. At the Scientific Conference on the Olive and Olive oil that took place in the scope of the Festival, members of the Greek scientific community together with all those involved in the production, processing, manufacture and trade, had the opportunity to present opinions, proposals and experiences aiming at solving important problems in the industry. Particularly for this reason the conference was flooded by hundreds of olive oil producers, packagers and processors from all around the country. The 1st Greek Extra Virgin Olive oil Contest conducted at the Festival was an important innovation of the event with many participants from all over Greece and many awards that demonstrated that Greek olive oils are of extremely high quality.
